Last week we watched the film - Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari, this German Expressionist film is one the earliest examples to tell a story through flash back.
This film is also very influential to films made after, Tim Burton being one that has taken the style of this film into his work. Although this film is a silent movie, this film gives the viewers as much impact as if it would have had spoken dialogue. The intertitles work well with the peice, especially by the font they have chosen.
The of color and eerie backing tracks creates the tension and the surreal environments used for set is amazing. The shadows are painted for this film makign actors walk on set to the already laid down shadows, this is the first itme ive seen a film using artificial shadows.
The actors make-up is als overy interesting, especially on Cesare the Somnambulist which is now seen as Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands.
In general this film is very ionteresitng to watch and is said that everytime you watch it you can pick something new up.
