Photographs

I have taken 2 photographs from my previous work that has a significant use of colour for my project

Please note: before you ask,yes these are taken by myself, as a freelance photographer so they are copyrighted by me, see the watermark

also, both pictures below have not been edited with any software

Gloomy Day B&W

This picture was taken on avery dull day, black and white fully brings out the beauty of it on picture

Tibshelf Night Trails

Taken at night with a low shutter speed, capturng the movement of vehicles on the motorway, the contrast between the black night sky and the red and white lights of cars is wonderful

One Shot Short Film

I'm not even sure if we've done ours to the matching criterias, but sod it, heres the film

it is about a undercover police officer meeting a drug dealer for a pick-up to catch the drug dealer, obviously you don't know that there is 2 cops until the end when the other one pops out to arrest the dealer.

Colour and Light

Colour and Light
The piece of art work I chose to discuss is by Rebecca Partridge - The Dreaming

The Dreaming
oil on canvas, 155×185cm, 2008

The artists main colour is black in this painting, the other bright colours used is befitting for the title. Dreaming is a night activity therefore associated with the colour black, or dark colours, but as you dream deeper, the night fades away and you get less and less wary of the night and fall deeper into sleep. That is why the colour gets more and more vivid towards the center of the painting signifying what I explained earlier. The many different colour overlapping each other on most of the painting is to visually demonstrate the idea of dreams having many different things going on and connecting with one another. That is also why the colours blend in rather than overlap. Although I'm not sure on this, I think the colours that are put together are the ones that compromise each other, in some cases they are not but again it fits the title. another thing that fits the title is the randomness of the layout of the painting.
the painting is once again fully black at the center, just right after the colour being the brightest, this could mean the end of a dream when your just about to wake up or just fallen out of one dream and about to go back into a different one.
The artist also has a high usage of tints/shades her paintings which is interestingly displayed via the overlapping of different colours.

Adobe premiere editing

well last time we was in, we sat down and had a go at editing some footage from some film, on Adobe Premiere, wasnt very interesting and a lot harder to use than final cut, still feel that final cut pro is a lot better but I'll just haver to deal with this.

3 point lighting and one shot short

Last lecture we did about 3 point lighting which was very boring tbh, ive done it all before so I guess thats the reason, not sure about everyone else though, they might have found it interesting :)

On top of that, we managed to come up with an idea for the one shot short and I advised a location to film it :)

Rule of thirds

The rule of thirds, simply put, a guideline for the composition within photography and film.

By splitting the layout of the screen into thirds vertically and horizontally, you'll get 4 line, by placing the subject on the intersection on 2 lines will mean that you have placed the subject in 1 of the thirds.

The rule can also be applied to architecture and other forms of art, by all means it is a way to arrange objects o its more pleasing for the eyes.

This rule also allows the subject to have less empty space surrounding it.

Clip to show the rule of thirds

We were set the task to write about the meaning of "rule of thirds" and to make a short clip to demonstrate it, here is my short clip -

here we have my alarm clock placed in the bottom third at the start, as it moves around, it lands on all the other thirds.

simple stuff (y)

One Shot FIlm

Today we was introduced to the one shot film, we were split into groups to make a short film with one limited amount of movements to the on tripod camera, we was allowed to use pans, tilts and zooms whilst not moving the camera.

This means that the focus of the piece will rely alot more on the actors or whats going in shot to make it interesting.

we made 2 shorts which im pretty happy about, quite excited about the the full production, I think it will be fun to do (y)

Adobe Premiere CS3 editing

Today I finally came across adobe premiere, I've heard much about it at college but we used final cut so we didn't get a chance to try it out. since i have been using Final Cut for a long time it feels weird using adobe premiere but the basics are similar so it wasn't hard to pick up :)

hopefully I will get use to using it soon and be able to use the software creatively and effectively during the near future.

Favourite design object and my views on it

Favourite design object and my views on it

I recently bought a new mobile phone, the Nokia N82

I bought this phone because of its simple design that is capable of functioning the same as phones that have complex designs.

I feel that nowadays when people buy new mobile phones, they will put the function of being able to make phone calls on the bottom priority, they will most likely look at all the different things the phone can do, rather than focusing on the genuine reason to have a phone.

I think this all started off when technology became more and more portable to the extent that we can have one item that has the capability of many other items.

When mobiles started to have music players, people would buy a mobile phone with a music player even if they had an mp3 player already, I think this is the influence from product adverts more than anything. People will think that if they’re mp3 player ran out of battery they will have a spare music player with them, but apart from that there is really no logic behind it.

As technology gets better over the year, people started taking extra features on mobile phone for granted, more like a toy rather than a tool. Someone might own a really good camera already but will be willing to pay extra for a mobile that has a really decent camera built-in.

I think that showing-off with a high tech phone is another major reason. People like to show off with technology, and impress others with things others don’t have, so people are willing to pay extra just for the short period of time that they can make others impressed. It is only a short period because it won’t be long till a newer, better product is brought out, by then someone else would have bought the new product and the circle continues.

A good example of me doing that is when I bought my new phone, I previously owned and iphone, although it is still one of the most high-tech phones out, it didn’t have some of the simple features that wanted, such as video recording and Bluetooth. Another reason is that it is becoming too popular, I like having something that others don’t already own so I chose to buy the Nokia.

Another good example is my Nintendo DS.

I previously owned a original Nintendo DS until the DS lite came out, the function of both consoles are nearly exactly the same, the only major difference is in the size and looks.

The DS lite is much more portable and pocket friendly; even though I don’t really carry it in my pocket I wanted it for that reason. It also looks more sleek and stylish, but these are really excuses your mind comes up with to not make yourself guilty when buying it.

I am personally the worst for wanting the best product out, or making my own belongs different, not only did I spend more money buying a new DS lite that is more or less the same as my previous one, I also spent extra money on stickers to make it look nice. On top of that I purchased a R4 card that allows to the DS to have extra features such as video player, music player, and photo viewer. This is the perfect example of how people would pay money to make their product work better for the sake of being cool.

New essay coming up

right now, sat in the waverly building writing the next essay, should be up in about a 1 minute :)

absolutely nailed the f*cker :D

Multimedia technology and its impact on society

Multimedia technology and it’s impact on society

From a young age I have been playing Nintendo consoles, and every time the company brings out something new, it never ceases to amuse me. I know that on terms of graphics, it is not comparable to the Playstation 3 or the Xbox 360, but in terms of entertainment, Nintendo produces non less.

Nintendo has been running at its own speed, I feel that they could achieve graphics on the same level as Sony and Microsoft but they have looked a lot more deeper than just graphics. From back into the Gameboy series, they had the Pocket Camera which now has taken the form of the Eye Toy by Playstation. Pocket Camera made it possible for you to use yourself to play games via moving your face around the camera’s view. This was the first step, then they finally built one of the most popular and interact hand held games console up till today, the Nintendo DS.

The DS first arrived Europe in March 2005, the console was a whole new concept and is still running strong now. Not only was the console fitted with 2 screens, it was also touch sensitive giving a brand new path to game design on how it could involve this function. Games then gradually came out pushing the DS to its full potential, allowing the DS to be played sideways, using the built-in Microphone in games etc.

After 1 and a half years, Nintendo then released the Nintendo Wii, which is now one of the top selling games console. The impact it had on its release was tremendous, it was a cutting edge technology that amazed the community, with its high interactive gaming features, players can get much more involved within the game to produce a whole new gaming experience.

The original design on a games controller was thrown to bring forth a whole new design. The whole idea of the Wii is to allow gamers to get active and move about whilst playing and the new design will let the player achieve that. With motion sensors built into both parts of the controllers, gamers can simulate all sorts of movements.

With the birth of the Wii, I feel that it will be Nintendo that will lead the market in the future, for it doesn’t just compete with other consoles, it also thinks much more for its buyers. I assume that Nintendo will release more and more gadgets for the Wii in the near future whilst they develop new concepts.

I have a feeling that something similar to the Atari VR Headset might be brought out again or maybe something that you can attach to your body to ultimately make you move characters. Full virtual reality will probably be the future but there are many consequences ,for instance some might question if it had pushed gaming too far when people get too involved and start to question reality, which is obviously very far fetched but could happen.

I played a game that was set in the future, and the way characters play games was to step inside a small room where you will be engaged in virtual reality rather than attaching anything to your body. Which is an interesting concept.

Ultimately I feel that the interactive gaming future will most likely lie in the hands of Nintendo, but if other companies team up with Nintendo, they would be capable of making better console, which will include great interactivity and better graphics.
This will inevitably have a major impact, but I assume in the near future, people will be expecting more and more and company standards will have to rise dramatically to keep the buyers interested.

Pixilation Edit

Last I was in Uni i started my pixilation editing which I found pretty easy since I am already familiar with Photoshop, but the whole process was well explained anyway so I guess no-one would have found it too difficult.

Photoshop CS3 extended i good software to use and I learnt new features last lecture so it was fun (Y)

looking forward to using Adobe Premiere

pixalation

well we've started pixalation now, pretty cool, pretty fun but its takes so long lol
we managed to get some interesting things off it but I just got a text off James informing me that our work is all gone ! need to check that out, hope its not though.

I tried my own idea out today, making pixalation in first person, basically a journey of me, James and Alan to wetherspoons viewed through my eyes, it was fun making it although I got kicked out of the student shop for not having permission, which is fair enough.

working hard now trying to come up with some new stuff, next blog will be the essay if I dont put anything else on here beforehand

What You Want To Get Out Of The Course In Addition To Passing?

Wow, uni at last aye, didn't think the time will ever come, but now I'm here i might as well enjoy it and get on with the years to come.

I want to achieve not only a degree from this course but also to truly develop my creative side to its full potential, to learn the use of different equipment and and have deeeper understanding of the industry would be nice too.

I also aim to find the area of the subject in which I'm best in and push it to its limit so it will be my speciality in the future.

On top of that I would want to build a group of friends who can support each other and make the years spent here interesting and entertaining.
